I am one of Greg's great nieces. His sister, Sharon, is my grandmother. We had a few adventures together but the 2 that stick out in my mind were once when I was visiting them (with my grandmother). We were driving around late at night in the big suburban and without our knowledge(since most of us kids had fallen asleep) Greg needed some shut eye so he pulled over into a giant cornfield and slept. So I awoke to find us all nestled safely in the rows of corn. It was quite a surprise.
Another was in recent years, we had all gone to my cousin Mark's wedding in Oregon. While the wedding party was doing their own thing(photos and such), my husband and I suggested we go out to lunch with Greg, Alisa, and my grandmother. We went to a Thai restaurant close by and because Greg insisted that Thai food was delicious, it didn't take much to convince my grandmother, his sister, to dine there with us. Afterward, we suggested going back to our Airbnb where we could all take a great big food coma nap in the various extra rooms we had there. They were delighted, as their plane had arrived shortly before the wedding and none of us were up to doing much but resting. Seeing this giant of a man sleeping on one of the twin beds in the other room was very funny.
He was always a great deal of fun and you knew when he teased you it was out of love and nothing malicious. He was a great source of love and kindness in this family and will be sorely missed. I'm just grateful that he was able to meet my husband and that Anthony was able to bask in Greg's great character before he passed.
Love you always and forever Uncle Greg!
